Shelomi

SHELOMI (Heb. שְׁלׁמִי), town in northern Israel. Shelomi is located on the slopes of Western Galilee, 8 mi. (12 km.) east of Nahariyyah. The town's area is 2.3 sq. mi. (6 sq. km.). It received municipal council status in 1960. In 2002 the population numbered 4,930, among them 22% new immigrants. The town's industry was based on metal and medical equipment plants. The name derives from the biblical figure Achihud ben Shelomi, who lived in the land of Asher.
