Arrow Fails Second Test To Shoot Down Scud
The Israeli Arrow missile failed August 26 in a second test to down an advanced Scud demo missile. The advanced Scud boasts a splitting warhead, and although the radar unit locked on to the missile, the system failed to discern between the exploding warhead and the fake ones.
Three weeks earlier, the Arrow-2 successfully shot down a live Scud missile in flight in a test launch over the California coast. Israeli defense officials hailed the test as a milestone for the U.S.-funded, one-of-a-kind missile defense system.
