Nili Avramski

(1970 - )

Nili Avramski was born on January 4, 1970, in Rehovot.

While Nili had won the Tiberias Marathon numerous times, and was an Israeli champion on several occasions, she had not achieved international recognition until recently. Avramski won the Israeli 3,000 meter event in 1993, 1994 and 1995. The long-distance specialist won the 5,000 meter event in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004. Nili captured the 10,000 meter gold in 1994, 1995, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004. Her marathon form wasn't half bad either as she triumphed in the half marathon in 1995, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2003 and 2004 and the full marathon between 1996-1998 and again between 2000-2002 and in 2004. She missed out on all the titles in 2003 as she gave birth to her daughter. One of her best runs was in the Tiberias Marathon of 2002 when she finished at 2:36:40 and set a new Israeli record. Avramski had one last chance of qualifying for the 2004 Olympics when she entered the 2004 Paris marathon. She ran a solid 2.36:36 hours time, as she came in ninth and broke her personal and national record by 4 full seconds. The time was slightly above the Israeli Olympic criteria.

Avramski ran in the 2004 Athens Games marathon event on August 22. The Israeli finished 42nd overall (2:48.08), 21:48 minutes behind the winner. She was 12 minutes behind her national record, but considering the intense heat in Athens, it was creditable performance.
