Israel Defense Forces: Joint Officer Training Course

(October 2015)

In October 2015, twelve soldiers from seven militaries around the globe completed a new IDF Officer Training Course Program. Officers from the United States, Brazil, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, and Italy participated in the training program. The training was a learning experience for all involved, as the foreign officers learned how to think quickly and improvise from the Israeli soldiers, and the Israelis learned from the older, more experienced foreign officers. Participants in the program said that the officers bonded with the Israeli soldiers through the hardships of the training.

The program included extensive navigational training, teambuilding and leadership exercises, educational visits to Israeli historical sites, and one-on-one time with Israeli army officials. The foreign officers also learned room-clearing tactics from the Israelis, and practiced engaging enemies in urban environments at the IDF's urban warfare training center at the Tzeelim army base. The IDF soldiers brought the foreign officers to security checkpoints around Israel to see how they operate and keep people safe. The unique political and security situation, as well as geography of Israel made this training exercise exceedingly beneficial for the foreign officers.
