A new smartphone application developed by the IDF Home Front Command was released in February 2016, for iPhone and Android devices. The application, called Home Front Command, uses the phone's built-in GPS to alert the user to threats or emergencies in their immediate vicinity. Other Israeli applications serve similar purposes but are not GPS-based, and issue country-wide warnings instead of warnings specific to the area of use. The Home Front Command application will warn users of natural disaster threats, as well as terror attacks and incoming rockets. In addition to cautioning the phone owner about the potential threat, the application includes instructions on how to respond.
