Senate Approves FY2000 Foreign Aid Bill

By a vote of 97-2, the U.S. Senate approved the Fiscal Year 2000 foreign aid bill on June 30, 1999. The legislation includes $1.92 billion in military aid and $960 million in economic aid for Israel. The bill also includes $1.3 billion in military aid and $735 million in economic aid to Egypt and $150 million in economic aid for Jordan. Israel's aid was reduced by $60 million and aid to Egypt by $40 million as part of plans to restructure aid to both countries.
