New Arrow-2 Impressive in Tests
The ninth test of the Arrow anti-ballistic missile system was deemed a success after the Arrow-2 shot down a live missile dropped from an Israeli Air Force fighter jet. In this simulation of Scud missile attack, the system's Green Pine radar tracked the missile, the Citron fire-control center then launched the interceptor, which struck the missile 100 kilometers from the Israeli coastline. This was the highest and farthest tthe Arrow-2 had ever been tested.
One battery of Arrow-2s is already deployed. A second is due for deployment in the near future while a third is under construction.
The Arrow, jointly funded by Israel and the U.S., is the only operational anti-missile missile system in the world.
