Yehudit Naot
(1944 - 2004)
Yehudit Naot was born in Israel in 1944. A Professor in the Technion Medical Department and a scientist, she holds a D.Sc. in Biology and a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the Technion Israel Institute of Technology.
Naot was a member of the Shinui party since 1975, and active in its council and secretariat. She served as a member of the Haifa Municipal Council (1978-1979, 1983-1987 and 1989-1997) and as Deputy Mayor of Haifa (1989-1991 and 1993-1996).
She was a Member of Knesset starting in 1999 as a member of the Internal Affairs and Environment, Education and Culture Committees. She also served on the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Continuing Financial Crisis of the Local Governments and the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee on the Trading of Women.
In February 2003, Yehudit Naot was appointed Minister of the Environment. She resigned for health reasons on September 20, 2004. On December 17, 2004, she died of throat cancer.
She was survived by a husband and three children.
