Selma Fraiberg
(1918 - 1981)
Born in Detroit, Fraiberg studied social work at Wayne State University. She met success in three careers: as a psychoanalyst specializing in treatment of children, she wrote the classic The Magic Years (1959); her work with blindness in infants led to her Insights From the Blind (1977); in her work with maternal bonding with infants, she began the Child Development Project at the University of Michigan, which served troubled families and trained clinicians.
