Roosevelt Asks State Department If There is Anyplace for “Jewish colonization”

(November 26, 1938)

Note from President Roosevelt to Undersecretary of State Sumner Welles asking if the State Department has on hand any information as to possible places anywhere in the world for “Jewish colonization.” This may have been a reaction to Kristallnacht as the president is asking where Jewish refugees from Germany could go other than the United States. Welles responds on November 28, 1938.
