Ministry of Popular Culture Calls On Venice Theater to Replace Jewish Singer
Letter from the Ministry of Popular Culture, general administration for the theatre, Rome, to the president of the Board of La Fenice Theatre in Venice on the subject of workers of the Jewish race:
Following the legislative measures in which it has been decided that it is forbidden to every public agency to hire workers of the Jewish race. I notify you, under the order of His excellency the Minister, and to avoid any responsibility, to dismiss immediately all the workers of the Jewish race, that for whatever reason might have still avoided the census and the denunciation. Awaiting your fast reply.
For the Minister (illegible signature).
From the Ministry of Popular Culture, general administration for the theatre.
To the board of La Fenice theatre.
Rome, December 30, 1938
On the subject of workers of the Jewish race.
The National Fascist Federation of the workers in the show business has notify that your agency had hired for the next season the lyrical singer Jole Jacchia, that appears to be of the Jewish race.
We request you to replace this lyrical singer with another one of the Aryan race and we will wait for your kind assurance.
