Israeli Prime Minister Levi Eshkol replied to President Kennedy’s letter of October 3, 1963, expressing his appreciation for the United States commitment to deter or halt any aggression on Israel. He also asked for help easing the financial burden of Israel given its need to maintain deterrence against its enemies. He also highlighted the danger posed by Egyptian military force and expressed hope that the United States would favorably consider his request for arms.
