Anna Pavitt Boudin
(1883 - 1959)
Born in Poland, Boudin immigrated to the United States in 1904 and, shortly after her arrival, enrolled in the dentistry program at Columbia University. She became an active member of the American Academy of Dental Medicine and the American Academy of Periodontology and in 1924 she established the dental clinic of the New York Infirmary.
In 1909, she married leftist labor lawyer, Louis Boudin, one of the founders of the American ORT Federation, an organization dedicated to alleviating the precarious economic situation of Jews in Russia. In 1927, she became founding president of the Women's American ORT, working to establish schools for Jews in the U.S. and abroad and promoting health care. Boudin lived with her family in New York City, watching Women's American ORT grow to be one of the largest Jewish women's organizations in the U.S. and the largest membership group within ORT worldwide.
