Senate Votes to Maintain U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem
(February 5, 2021)
On February 5, 2021, the Senate voted 97-3 to approve an amendment to the $1.9 trillion relief bill to set aside funding to maintain U.S. embassy in Jerusalem. The amendment, co-sponsored by 21 Republicans, was aimed at making it more difficult for President Biden to reverse President Donald Trump’s decision to move the embassy from Tel Aviv – something Biden has said he will not do. Democrats Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Tom Carper of Delaware were the senators who opposed the amendment.
