The head of Britain’s MI5 intelligence service was concerned about Irgun leader Menachem Begin’s planned visit to the United States where he was expected to seek support for the Freedom Party. This message from Percy Sillitoe to Richard Thistlethwaite, MI5’s man in the the British Embassy in Washington, provides background on Begin.
