GIs Remember - Love and Renewal

The ties that bind one Jew to another continued well after the liberation. Jewish soldiers did everything they could to help survivors rebuild their lives. They located relatives, found shelter for them, and eventually a route out of Europe.

Jewish chaplains were particularly active in assisting survivors. They served their religious needs, conducting everything from marriages to circumcisions, and also assisted many in finding their way to Palestine. One chaplain alone performed over 350 marriages of survivors. Some Jewish GIs fell in love with survivors, and came home with war brides.
