Potential Threats To Israel: Iraq
Iraq does not share a border with Israel, but since 1948 it has been one of Israel's staunchest enemies. Iraq made Israel a prime target for attack during the Gulf War and was a sponsor of terrorism against Israel. The 2003 Iraq War, however, destroyed much of the Iraqi army and deposed Saddam Hussein opening up the possibility that a new, democratically elected Iraqi government may change its orientation toward Israel and adopt a policy that if not friendly, is at least less hostile.
