Israel Security: A Red Sea Security System: Political, Miliary, and Economic Issues

(December 8, 1981)

This document outlines concerns about the security of the Red Sea and preventing Soviet intervention. Most countries are not viewed as having a role to play, with the exception of Saudi Arabia. The report mentions that Israel will use the threat to justify greater strategic cooperation with the United States, but this report does not foresee Israel having a role in defending the waterway (even though it is a key trade route for Israel and its blockage by Egypt provoked two wars).
