Juniper Cobra: U.S. and Israel to Hold Joint Air-Defense Exercise

(October 8, 2009)

According to officials, the United States and Israel will hold their biggest joint air-defense exercise yet from October 12-16, 2009. The exercise, called Juniper Cobra, will be overseen by Admiral Mark Fitzgerald and will test missile interceptors that would serve as a strategic buttress in the event of a future showdown with Iran. American forces taking pat in the maneuvers will include 17 ships and ground personnel operating the Aegis and THAAD missile interceptors, joined with Israel's Arrow II missile-killer for computer-simulated tests.
