A few months after the liberation, there was a great upsurge in founding new families. Many weddings were held, and after a few months there were thousands of pregnant women in the camps. In 1946-1948, the highest birthrate in the world was that in the survivors' camps. Up to 700 children were born in the camps in some months. Care of the mothers and children became one of the most important necessities. We cooperated with the Joint in setting up well-baby clinics and counseling services for the young mothers.
