Matvey Weinrub

WEINRUB, MATVEY, Soviet lieutenant general, Hero of the Soviet Union. In World War II, at the battle of Stalingrad, he commanded the armor of the 62^nd army, and his small tank force twice succeeded in preventing the Germans from reaching the Volga. Weinrub was promoted to major general with command of the armored division of the 8^th guards army which recaptured the Donets coalfield and Odessa and advanced to Berlin.
