UN General Assembly Resolution 35/147 (December 1980)

The thirty fifth session of the United Nations General Assembly was no different than previous ones, in passing a series of anti-Israel resolutions, whose authors were fully aware that they would not be implemented and would carry little if no moral value. Another resolution dealing with the establishment of a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East, also a "traditional" resolution, was adopted without a vote on 12 December (Resolution 35/147). The following resolution was adopted by 99 in favour, 6 against and 38 abstentions. In reality it only placed the item on the agenda of the next assembly.

The General Assembly,

Recalling its relevant resolutions on the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the region of the Middle East,

Reaffirming its resolution 33/71 A of 14 December 1978 on military and nuclear collaboration with Israel, and its resolution 34/89 of 11 December 1979 on Israeli nuclear armament,

1. Take note of the progress report of the Secretary-General on the work of the Group of Experts to prepare a study on Israeli Nuclear Armament submitted to the General Assembly at its thirty-fifth session;

2. Requests the Secretary-General to pursue his efforts in this regard and to submit his report to the General Assembly at its thirty-sixth session;

3. Decides to include in the provisional agenda of its thirty-sixth session the item entitled "Israeli nuclear armament."
