Steve Schiff

(1947 - 1998)

Steven Harvey Schiff was a Jewish American politician and member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Schiff (born March 18, 1947; died March 25, 1998) was born in Chicago, Illinois. He received a B.A. from the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1968 and his J.D. from the University of New Mexico Law School in 1972. Schiff also served in the New Mexico Air National Guard from 1969 to 1998.

From 1972 to 1977, Schiff served as an  assistant district attorney for Bernalillo County, New Mexico, and from 1979 to 1981 as an assistant city attorney and counsel for the Albuquerque police department. He was appointed district attorney for Bernalillo County in 1980 and held that post until 1988.

In November 1988, Schiff was elected as a Republican to the U.S. House of Representatives and subsequently won re-election four times. Schiff died in office on March 25, 1998. He is buried at Fairview Cemetery in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
