Lawrence Jack Smith

(1941 - )

Lawrence Jack Smith is a Jewish American politician and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Smith (born April 25, 1941) was born in Brooklyn, New York, and attended public schools in East Meadow. He attended New York University from 1958 to 1961 and later earned his LL.B. and J.D. from the Brooklyn Law School in 1964.

From 1978 to 1982, Smith served in the Florida house of representatives. In November 1982, he was elected as a Democrat to represent Florida's 16th district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was subsequently re-elected four times, in 1984, 1986, 1988 and 1990.

He was not a candidate for renomination in 1992. On August 3, 1993, Smith pled guilty to one count of tax evasion and one count of filing false campaign reports. He was sentenced to three months in prison.

Smith currently lives in Hollywood, Florida.
