CONVERSOS, designation used in Christian Spain and Portugal for Moorish or Jewish converts to Christianity. It was sometimes applied also to their descendants. Unlike the epithets *Marranos , *alboraycos , or tornadizos, the term Conversos has no derogatory implications.
