Eliezer Sandberg

Eliezer Sandberg is an Israeli politician who formerly served in a ministerial post in the Israeli cabinet.

Sandberg (born February 21, 1962) was born in Israel and served as a lieutenant in the Army Prosecutor's Office. A lawyer by profession, he holds a law degree (L.L.B.) from Tel Aviv University.

Former Secretary-General of the Tsomet party, he served as a member of the Tsomet Secretariat since 1988 and as Legal Adviser to the Tsomet Movement, as well as Chairman of the Haifa Branch of Tsomet.

He was first elected to the Knesset on the Tsomet list in 1992 and in 1999 on the Shinui list. He served as a member of the following Knesset Committees: House; Economics; Constitution, Law and Justice; Education and Culture; Advancement of the Status of the Child; State Control; Labor, Welfare, and Health; and Anti-Drug Abuse. He also served in the 13th Knesset as Knesset Observer in the European Council and Deputy Chairman of the Elections Committee, and in the 14th Knesset as Deputy Knesset Speaker. In the 15th Knesset he served as Chairman of the Subcommittee for Government Corporations and of the Committee for the Examination of the Maccabiah Bridge Disaster.

From November 1998 until July 1999, Sandberg served as Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, and Sport.

In February 2003, Sandberg was appointed Minister of Science and Technology, a post he held until July 2004 when he became Minister of National Infrastructure. He left the cabinet in December 2004 when Shinui left the ruling coalition.

He is married, and has three children.
