Joshua Eilberg

Joshua Eilberg was a Jewish American politician and member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Eilberg (born February 12, 1921; died March 24, 2004) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Wharton School and Temple University School of Law. During World War II, Eilberg served in the United States Naval Reserve.
From 1952 to 1954, Eilberg served as an assistant district attorney for the city of Philadelphia and in 1954 he was elected to the general assembly of Pennsylvania. He won re-election to the assembly through 1966. In 1965 and 1966, Eilberg was the majority leader of the Pennsylvania house of representatives.
In November 1966, Eilberg was elected as a Democrat to the U.S. House of Representatives and was subsequently re-elected five times, serving until January 1979.
In 1978, Eilberg was investigaed for money he received in connection with a federal grant to Hahnemann University Hospital. Eilberg lost his 1978 re-election bid, and, three months later, pleaded guilty to conflict of interest charges. He was sentenced to five years of probation and a $10,000 fine.
