Sid Gillman
(1911 - 2003)
Sidney "Sid" Gillman was an American football coach and innovator. Gillman's insistence on stretching the football field by throwing deep downfield passes, instead of short passes to running backs or wide receivers, made football into the modern game that it is today. Gillman has coached or administered several teams, including the LA Rams, LA Chargers, San Diego Chargers and Houston Oilers. He won his only AFL championship while coaching the San Diego Chargers in 1963. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983.
