Eliezer Goldberg

(1931 - )

Eliezer Goldberg is an Israeli lawyer and judge who previously served on the Israeli Supreme Court and as State Comptroller of Israel.

Goldberg (born May 24, 1931) was born in Jerusalem during the British Mandate. He studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, graduating in 1955, and received a license to practice law in 1957.

In 1964, Goldberg worked as a judge in traffic court before becoming a judge in Jerusalem's Magistrate's Court in 1965, a position he held until 1974. From 1974 to 1982, he served as a judge on Jerusalem's District Court and was appointed Deputy President of the District Court in 1982 through 1983.

In 1983, Goldberg was appointed as an acting judge on the Israeli Supreme Court and he became a full justice in 1984. He served on the Supreme Court through 1998. That year, he was elected by the Knesset to serve as State Comptroller and Public Complaints Commissioner for the State.

In May 2006, Goldberg received an esteem award from the influential Movement for Quality Government. From 2007 to 2011, he presided over the Goldberg Commission considering Bedouin land rights.
