U.S., Israel Complete Joint Maneuvers

U.S. Marines riding hovercrafts stormed ashore the beaches of Nitzanim April 20, 2005, as part of joint maneuvers being quietly held between the U.S. and Israeli militaries. The Marines simulated an armed assault from the sea while IDF forces maneuvered inland until the two forces met. Military sources said the operation was code named “Kaya Green.”

The Marines of the Sixth Fleet specialize in extraction operations to evacuate U.S. personnel and conduct such exercises periodically in Israel.

IDF Spokesperson's Office said the defense exercise took place over several weeks and had been planned during the last two years as part of a routine series of exercises meant to examine the joint operation of the defense systems of both nations.

Patriot Missile defense systems were placed in a number of sites around Israel, and Anti-Aircraft forces (air defense forces) from both the IDF and U.S. Army carried out joint shooting practice.

During a preliminary summary of the exercise by both sides, the commanders expressed their satisfaction with the cooperation between the two armies, a factor that made the exercise and its completion so successful.
