Israel Political Parties: Center Party

The Center Party (Hamercaz) was established in 1999 by Yitzhak Mordechai, Amnon Lipkin-Shahak, Roni Milo and Dan Meridor. It tried to carve out a centrist position between Labor and Likud in the 1999 elections. Yitzhak Mordechai was the party’s candidate for Prime Minister, but dropped out at the last minute when it was clear he had no chance for victory. The Center Party advocates improving the economy, investing in education, negotiations with Syria and the Palestinians and uprooting political corruption.
