Major Incidents in the Gaza Strip and West Bank

January 14 - Border Policeman, Sergeant First Class Joshua Gabriel, aged 25 from Ashdod, was killed and an officer was moderately wounded in a clash with terrorists near Otniel in the south Hebron hills. The soldier was critically wounded and died later in hospital.

February 19 - SSG Motty (Mordehai) Barsheshet, aged 21 from Herzelia, who was wounded seriously during the "Shimshon" undercover unit's activity in the Gaza strip on October 13 1992, died from his wounds.

April 25 - Sergeant Yaakov Ashkenazi was killed and two soldiers were wounded, one moderately and the other lightly, in a car accident near the village of Limen while on operational activity.

April 28 - An IDF soldier was moderately wounded from shots towards his vehicle in the village of Silat - A - Hartia in area A (an area under complete Palestinian control) near the town of Jenin.

October 26 - An IDF soldier was moderately wounded, an Israeli civilian was lightly wounded and eleven Palestinians were lightly wounded when dozens of Palestinians rioted and threw ten Molotov cocktails towards Israeli vehicles and IDF soldiers near Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem following the killing of a Palestinian.

October 28 - During an attempt by Palestinians to infiltrate an army outpost near the settlement of Shiloh a Palestinian was wounded. Five Palestinians tried to break into an IDF encampment during the night,and when the soldier on guard called on them to stop and they failed to do so, he opened fire at them.

October 30 - Five Israeli citizens were wounded by light weapon fire towards an Israeli bus three Km. from the Tarkumia checkpoint (the safe passage checkpoint, area C).

November 10 - The IDF evacuated, at the government's orders, eleven encampments in the West Bank. The encampments were evacuated quietly except for the Maon Farm encampment, where the residents resisted. During the evacuation four residents were injured. A few residents returned to the area on 13 November and in a fight between them and Palestinians at a nearby campsite, four Palestinians were wounded and the settlers were evacuated by the Israel police and the IDF.

December 13 - Wanted terrorist Iyad Batat and arms dealer Nader Masalma, both Hamas activists were killed and two Palestinians were wounded in a clash with an IDF force.
