Remains of a 3,400 year old fortress were unearthed during an archaeological expedition undertaken prior to the construction of an apartment building in Nahariya. The Israel Antiquities Authority announced on January 7, 2016, that many items including human and animal statuettes, pottery shards, and bronze weapons were found at the site. A team from the Antiquities Authority, along with the assistance of local high school students and other volunteers, began the excavation project in Summer 2015.
In order to preserve the find and move forward with the construction around it, the Israel Antiquities Authority struck a deal with the contractor that the basement of the apartment building would display a part of the remains.
