While hiking the Horns of Hattin in the Lower Galilee with his family, a farmer discovered an ancient object and called the Israel Antiquities Authority for their opinion. The discovery of the 3,500 year old scarab amulet was announced by the Antiquities Authority in early February 2016.

The object was identified as a scarab amulet from the New Kingdom period in Egypt by Dr. Dafna Ben-Tor, curator of the Ancient Egypt section at the Israel Museum. The amulet, in the shape of a dung beetle depicts the Egyptian Pharoah Thutmose III seated on his throne.
