Howard Wolpe III

Howard Eliot Wolpe III was a Jewish American politician and member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Wolpe (born November 3, 1939; died October 25, 2011) was born in Los Angeles, California. He recieved his B.A. from Reed College in 1960 and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1967. From 1967 to 1972, Wolpe worked as an associate professor at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo while also serving as Kalamazoo City Commissioner from 1969 to 1972.
From 1972 to 1976, Wolpe was a member of the Michigan State legislature. In 1978, he was elected as a Democrat to represent Michigan's 3rd district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was subsequently re-elected to six consecutive terms, serving until January 1993. Wolpe was not a candidate for renomination in 1992.
Wolpe was married to Judy Wolpe until her death in 2006. He died on October 25, 2011 at his home in Saugatuck, Michigan.
