Hitler’s Reconstructed Bunker

A civilian bomb shelter in Berlin has been converted into a museum that includes a reconstruction of the bunker where Adolf Hitler took his life in April 1945. The exhibition titled, “Hitler: How could it happen?” contains thousands of documents, photos and objects that tell the life story of the Nazi dictator, from his childhood in Austria and time as a painter, to his experience as a soldier during World War I, his subsequent rise to power and suicide. The museum also has exhibits about the concentration camps and the Holocaust. The model of Hitler’s bunker includes a grandfather clock, floral sofa and an oxygen tank. The exhibit is behind glass and visitors forbidden to take photographs. The museum is near Hitler’s actual underground bunker, which was destroyed in 1947.
