Early Newspaper Account of Dachau

Communist Beimler escaped. A 100 Mark reward was set for his capture.

During the night of last Tuesday the well known communist leader and former member of the Reichstag, Hans Beimler of Augsburg escaped from Dachau Concentration Camp. The fugitive, who has not been caught yet, wore brown trousers and blouse. His face was shaved and his hair was shaved short. Special marks are his large and projecting ears.

A reward of 100 Marks was set by the camp administration for any information leading to the capture of the fugitives. Beimler was the Communist leader who before the national revolution spoke out at a rally in the Krone Circus: “We shall meet again at Dachau”. Apparently he was not overjoyed by the reunion in Dachau.

The former chairman of the Communist fraction in the former Bavarian parliament (Landtag), Fritz Dressel, of Degendorf, who was arrested only a few days ago in Munich and taken into protective custody, committed suicide in Dachau during the night of last Monday. The reason for his suicide is unknown. He probably killed himself because of a state of depression.

Yesterday, Tuesday noon, the inmate Goetz, former Communist member of parliament was shot while violently assaulting one of the guards. A judicial commission immediately started the inquiry.
