Benyamin Zeroni
(1914 - 1994)
Born 1914 in Poland and in 1919 immigrated with his family to Eretz Israel.
At an early age joined Betar and several years later, was one of the first members of the Irgun.
When the 1936 riots broke out, was active against the Arab rioters. Two years later was appointed Commander of Haifa District and was responsible for Irgun reprisals, which took the form of laying explosives in the Arab market in the town. Was then transferred to Jerusalem and appointed District Commander.
Arrested by the British and after being severely tortured under interrogation, succeeded in escaping.
During the split, joined Avraham Stern's camp and shortly afterwards was arrested.
Was one of the first exiles in Africa, where he took part in daring escape bids.
Returned with the last exiles from Kenya on July 12, 1948 after the state of Israel was established.
