Archaeology in Israel: Prehistoric Archaeological Site Discovered in Central Israel

(January 2018)

Archaeologists associated with the Israel Antiquities Authority and Tel Aviv University announced the rare discovery of a 500,000-year old archaeological complex in central Israel on January 7, 2018.  Spanning 2.5 acres, the ancient site was filled with thousands of flint-stone tools formed into knives and axes.  Experts who made the discovery stated that the site was likely home to a community of Homo Erectus, the forefather of modern humans.
