LUCAN°

LUCAN° (Marcus Annaeus Lucanus; 39–65 C.E.), Roman epic poet, the nephew of *Seneca the Younger. In his Bellum Civile (ii, 592–3) he, like Varro, *Tacitus, and others, describes the Jews as devoted to the rites of an unseen (or indefinite) God (incertus deus). Elsewhere, he mentions the military help sent by Idumeans to Pompey.
