AICE Israel Studies Conference Grants

To advance the field of Israeli Studies, the American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise (AICE) will support conferences at colleges and universities in the U.S. The conference topics are open and can be in the social sciences, humanities, or law.

Preference will be given to the following:

  • The fields of history and political science.
  • Themes pertaining to modern Israel, particularly those with policy implications.
  • Conferences of interest not just to the academic community but to the general public and policymakers.
  • Proposals that have already received other financial commitments, either from the host institution or from other sources.
  • Proposals that have a prospect for publication of the conference papers as a book.

In addition, we have the following expectations:

  • Conferences must be recorded with a digital voice recorder and transcript made available to AICE and/or the Association of Israel Studies for posting online.
  • The conference should have a local off-campus cosponsor such as a Jewish federation or congregation.

Grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to cover conference expenses, including travel and honoraria, administrative support, advertising and promotion, printing of announcements, food, hotel, and other direct conference costs. No indirect costs will be supported.

To apply, submit a proposal that includes:

  • No more than a five page statement about the subject of the conference, including its relevance to the development of Israeli Studies in the U.S.; how it advances the field of Israeli Studies; and how it will be of interest to a wider community audience beyond academic interest to faculty and students.
  • A list of proposed participants, indicating whether they have accepted or degree of likelihood of their participation in the conference.
  • A detailed budget.
  • A vita from the principal organizer of the conference.
  • Funding from sources outside of AICE that have been obtained and specification of any additional proposals for funding not yet received (including amount requested and name of foundation or organization from which funds have been requested).

Deadline: March 1, 2008

The Faculty Advisory Board of the Israel Scholar Development Fund will screen applications and recommend nominees to the board of AICE, which will announce the winners within 60 days of the deadline.
