Avraham Poraz

(1945 - )


Avraham Poraz was born in Romania in 1945 and immigrated to Israel in 1950. A lawyer by profession, he holds a law degree from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Poraz served in the past as Member of the Tel Aviv Municipal Council and Chairman of the City Auditing Committee (1983-1988), Chairman of the Shinui Party Secretariat (1982-1983, 1988-1990), and head of the project for setting up a second TV channel, cable TV and regional radio (1984-1988). He has been a Member of Knesset since 1988.

In the Knesset, he served, among others, on the House Committee; the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee; the Ethics Committee; the Internal Affairs and Environment Committee and the Finance Committee and served as Chairman of the Economics Committee.

In February 2003, Avraham Poraz was appointed Minister of the Interior.

Poraz speaks Hebrew, English, French and Romanian. He is married, and has two children.
