PODELL, Bertram L., a Representative from New York; born in Brooklyn, N.Y., December 27, 1925; attended Yeshiva of Flatbush and Abraham Lincoln High School, St. John’s University and Brooklyn Law School; admitted to the bar in 1950 and commenced practice in New York City; served in the United States Navy, 1944-1946; member of the State assembly, 1954-1968; elected as a Democrat to the Ninetieth Congress, by special election, February 20, 1968, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Abraham J. Multer; reelected to the three succeeding Congresses and served from February 20, 1968, until January 3, 1975; unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1974 to the Ninety-fourth Congress; resumed the practice of law in New York City where he is a resident.
