Elliott Levitas

(1930 - )

Elliott Harris Levitas is a Jewish American politician and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Levitas (born December 26, 1930) was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He recieved his B.A. from Emory University in 1952 and earned his J.D. from Emory Law School in 1956. Levitas was a Rhodes scholar and recieved a masters of law degree from Oxford University in 1958. From 1955 to 1958, Levitas served in United States Air Force.

From 1965 to 1974, Levitas served in the Georgia house of representatives. In November 1974, he was elected as a Democrat to represent Georgia's 4th district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was subsequently re-elected four times, serving in Congress until January 1985. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in November 1984.
