Selma Blair

(1972- )


Selma Blair is a Jewish American actress. She was born Selma Blair Beitner on June 23, 1972, in Southfield, Michigan, the daughter of Elliot and Judge Molly Ann Beitner. In 1994, Blair graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan with a BFA in photography and a minor in English. She then moved to New York City to pursue her photography career, where she took acting classes at The Stella Adler Conservatory and The Column Theatre and began an acting career.

Blair's first professional role was in an episode of the children's television sitcom The Adventures of Pete & Pete. She landed her first film role in 1996's The Broccoli Theory and went on to appear in several independent movies, including her first leading role in No Laughing Matter. Her breakout role was in the 1999 film Cruel Intentions, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe.

In 2011, Blair was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Spoken World Album for Children for the audio book Anne Frank: The Diary Of A Young Girl: The Definitive Edition.

Blair married Ahmet Zappa in 2004, but the couple divorced in 2006. In January 2011, it was announced that Blair was expecting her first child with her boyfriend, fashion designer Jason Bleick.
