Charlee Minkin was born in San Francisco, California, November 13, 1981. Minkin began competing in judo at the age of five, she is a three-time U.S. National champion (1998, 2000, and 2002), her first title coming at the age of 16. She has competed in the World Championships in 2001 and 2003 and is a student at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.

The youngest of a family of judokists, Minkin was an alternate at the 2000 Games in Sydney. She represented the United States in the 52-kg class at the 2004 Olympic Games, losing to Raffaella Imbriani of Germany in the round of 32 at the under-52 kilograms judo event. Imbriani's failure to advance to the semi-finals meant that the American judoka did not qualify for the consolation round.
