Dario Lecman was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Lecman told the Jewish Telgraphic Agency that he spent much of his early life at the Maccabi Jewish Center in his hometown. Learning weightlifting, he became one of the top lifters in South America, winning the silver medal in the 94-kg class at both the 1999 and 2003 Pan American Games. He has been awarded Argentina's Silver Olimpias five times.

A two-time Olympian for Argentina in weightlifting, Lecman first competed in the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000. He competed in 94-kg class and finished in 19th with a total lift of 305-kg (135 in the snatch and 170 in the clean-and-jerk).

In the 2004 Athens Games, Dario competed in the same weight-class for Argentina. Competing in Group B on August 23, Lecman lifted 340-kilograms in the final reckoning. He managed 155-kilos in the snatch and 185 in his clean and jerk attempts. The Argentine ranked 17th in his weightlifting group and 33rd out of thirty-eight overall.
