Daniel Friedmann

(1936 - )

Daniel Friedmann is an Israeli lawyer and professor who served as Minister of Justice in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

Friedmann was born in then-Mandate Palestine to a family that had lived in the region for seven generations. He attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and received his doctorate from the Harvard Law School.

From 1974 to 1978, Friedmann served as the Dean of Tel-Aviv University Law Faculty and he has also been a visiting professor at Harvard University Law School, University of Pennsylvania Law School, Queen Mary College of the University of London and Fordham University Law School.

In February 2007, Israeli PM Ehud Olmert appointed Friedmann as Minister of Justice. He held the position until 2009.

Prof. Friedmann is a member of the Israeli Academy of Sciences and Humanities, member of the American Law Institute and a member (titular) of the International Academy of Comparative Law. He is also an Adviser to the Restatement (Third) of the Law of Restitution.

His awards include the Zeltner Prize, Sussman Prize, Minkoff Prize and the prestigious Israel Prize.
