Adam Stern

(1980 - )

Adam James Stern is a Jewish Canadian former professional baseball player.

Stern (born February 12, 1980) was born in Ontario, Canada, and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Sociology after playing three years on the school's baseball team. Out of high school he was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 22nd round of the 1998 draft, but opted instead to attend college. After graduation, the Atlanta Braves drafted him in the 3rd round of the 2001 draft.

From 2001 through 2004, Stern played in the Braves minor league system, never reaching the majors, and was subsequently selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 2004 Rule 5 draft.

Stern made his major league debut with the Red Sox on July 7, 2005, becoming only the second Canadian-born Jewish player to appear in the major leagues.

On August 8, 2005, Stern took the field in the 9th inning along with Kevin Youkilis and Gabe Kapler, setting a "record" for the most Jewish players on the field at one time in American League history and the most in Major League Baseball history since four Jews took the field for the New York Giants in a game in 1941.

In October 2006, Stern was traded to the Baltimore Orioles, but only appeared in one game as a defensive replacement in 2007. In 2010, he played for the Milwaukee Brewers.
