Abel

Abel was the son of Adam and Eve and the brother of Cain. Abel, a shepherd, brought lambs as a sacrifice to God, whereas Cain brought produce from his field he tended as a farmer. Cain became jealous because God favored Abel's offering and killed his brother Abel (Genesis 4:8). This is the first recorded incident of murder in the Torah. Scholars use this story to illustrate the ancient disputes between agricultural communities and nomadic peoples.
